Team GB Trampolinist

Amanda Parker

Amanda Parker was a member of the Team GB trampoline squad. She was World Synchronised Champion, London 2012 Olympic reserve and was in training for the 2016 Olympics in Rio when she came to see us.

As World Synchronised Trampoline Champion Amanda was at the top of her game when she came to see us with right side neck and shoulder pain, and left side mid and lower back pain.  These symptoms had been present for some time and were a result of a complex muscle imbalance resulting in myofascial (muscle/fascial) pain and spinal stiffness.  This had developed secondary to her training and competing as an International level Trampolinist.

Without the treatment from Neil and his team, I would never have been able to maintain the level of training that I needed to. My conditions were debilitating but with the diagnosis, treatment and exercises prescribed I kept the injury under control allowing me to train at my peak.

The challenge

The main challenge was to overcome the pain and restriction caused by the accumulative effects of training for over three hours per day, every day of the week.

Treatment consisted of trigger point and fascial release techniques, manipulations of neck, mid and lower back facet joints and Acupuncture to increase mobility and flexibility and reduce pain as well as selective muscle strength rehabilitation to eliminate muscle imbalance around the pelvis and spine.

But with weekly treatment, a comprehensive home exercise programme and the use of self-help techniques, ultimately our treatment was successful at keeping Amanda’s symptoms to a minimum and allowing her to train and compete for British Gymnastics in world cups, world championships and as a member of the GB squad.
